As Warsaw prepares for the annual Independence March, scheduled to commence at 2:30 PM on Monday from the renowned Dmowski Roundabout, the city anticipates significant disruptions in its central areas. Under the slogan "The Great Power of Poland is Us!" this year's march is set to follow a route across Al. Jerozolimskie, Poniatowskiego Bridge, and several key streets, concluding at the PGE National stadium grounds.

City authorities have announced the closure of multiple major streets during the event. Key routes such as Marszałkowska Street, Aleje Jerozolimskie, and sections of Poniatowskiego Avenue will be inaccessible, alongside potential closures along the Wisłostrada. Tram services on Marszałkowska and Al. Jerozolimskie will also be suspended while buses are rerouted to accommodate the march.

The Independence March, which has taken place annually since 2010, has drawn criticism and concern over incidents of violence and vandalism. Notably, clashes have sometimes erupted, involving participants, anti-fascist groups, and law enforcement. The city once witnessed the symbolic burning of the "Rainbow" art installation in 2013, an event that became a controversial symbol of underlying tensions.

Historically, the Independence March has been associated with nationalist factions, with previous events prompting widespread public discourse on its implications for social cohesion. Recent marches have sparked debates over issues like nationalism and xenophobia, with visible clashes reported in prior years. City officials, including Mayor Trzaskowski, have remained vigilant, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order.

As the march approaches, Warsaw accommodates these measures to balance the expression of patriotic sentiments with safety concerns. The event remains a focal point for discussing Poland's contemporary national identity, civic responsibility, and civil rights.
