Karol Nawrocki, a contender in the upcoming Polish presidential elections and supported by the ruling party Law and Justice (PiS), found himself at the centre of a contentious meeting with residents in Lębork. The event, which took place in early November, took an unexpected turn when audience members began chanting controversial slogans against former Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

During the question-and-answer segment following Nawrocki's speech, a man from the crowd raised concerns about whether Tusk would recognise the election results should Nawrocki emerge victorious. He expressed fears that Tusk might invalidate the elections to prevent Nawrocki from assuming the presidency. This prompted the audience to erupt in chants of "Nie bać Tuska!" and more offensive rhetoric directed at Tusk.

The situation lasted only a few moments, with Nawrocki staying composed and smiling silently from the stage, never directly addressing the chants. Instead, when he resumed speaking, he acknowledged the audience's worries, highlighting past instances where he believed Tusk had allegedly violated the rule of law. He claimed that issues had arisen after October 15, 2023, that concerned many.

Nawrocki, initially declared as an independent candidate, is noted by many observers to be unofficially endorsed by PiS. His campaign rhetoric has frequently alluded to ending what he describes as the "Polish-Polish war," emphasizing national unity over divisive politics.

Meanwhile, Nawrocki's spokesperson, Emilia Wierzbicki, took to social media to dispute the occurrence of any vulgar slogans at the event, contradicting reports and video evidence showing otherwise.

As elections approach, Nawrocki remains one of several candidates vying for the presidency. The landscape includes other notable contenders like Szymon Hołownia and Rafał Trzaskowski, alongside figures from diverse political factions such as Konfederacja's Sławomir Mentzen, who is embroiled in internal party discord.

With the first round of voting scheduled for May 18, the race continues to be tightly contested, underscored by the varied and often heated public reactions to potential leadership changes.
