An accident on the national road number 32 in Lubusz Voivodeship, Poland, had tragic consequences late on Friday evening, 31 January. A collision involving three vehicles occurred near the town of Łagów, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The section of road connects the cities of Zielona Góra and Krosno Odrzańskie.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the local police suggest that the accident happened when the driver of a Skoda Fabia attempted to overtake a Volkswagen. This manoeuvre led to a head-on collision with an Opel and a side-swipe with the Volkswagen. The tragic outcome saw the death of the Skoda’s driver, a woman who had to be extricated from her vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment.

The incident also left three individuals injured, two of whom are children reported to be in a critical condition. They, along with the Volkswagen driver, were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Emergency services responded swiftly, with four fire brigades, six ambulances, and police officers at the scene. Furthermore, a helicopter from the Air Ambulance Service was deployed to assist with the medical transport.
Following the accident, the major roadway was blocked in both directions, requiring authorities to redirect traffic through alternative routes including Dąbie, Kosierz, and Łagów. According to the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, these roadblocks and diversions might remain in effect until midnight as authorities work on clearing the scene and investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The police, under the supervision of the prosecutor, are actively involved in determining the precise causes of the accident. The severity of the incident underscores the importance of caution when navigating such roadways, particularly during overtaking manoeuvres.
