In a remarkable display of bravery and compassion, 13-year-old Ania from Legnica, Poland, became a hero on Tuesday, 22 October, when she helped rescue a lost elderly woman on a city bus. Ania was returning home in the afternoon when she noticed an older passenger who appeared disoriented and confused, continuously riding the bus without a clear purpose.
While adult passengers merely commented on the woman's condition, Ania decided to take action. Concerned about the senior, she chose to disembark at the same stop as the woman and immediately contacted the emergency services by dialling 112. Throughout the ordeal, Ania demonstrated remarkable composure and responsibility beyond her years, guiding the authorities by relaying her location as she followed the woman.

The police were quick to respond to Ania's call. It turned out that the 66-year-old woman suffered from schizophrenia and had been reported missing by her family around the same time that Ania raised the alert. Unable to communicate effectively and unaware of her identity, the senior was eventually taken to a local hospital for assessment and returned safely to her family.
Authorities in Legnica expressed their gratitude for Ania's extraordinary courage and initiative. She was invited to the local police station, where officers acknowledged her exemplary conduct and the powerful message it sends to both her peers and adults about the importance of stepping up in critical situations.
"The actions taken by Ania undoubtedly played a crucial role in locating and safeguarding the elderly woman," stated Łukasz Porębski of the Wrocław police department, highlighting how Ania's intervention may have been life-saving.
